About This Calculator
This free flight compensation calculator uses the great-circle distance formula (Haversine) to calculate the precise distance between your departure and arrival airports. Under EU Regulation EC 261/2004, compensation amounts are fixed based on these distances.
To be eligible, your flight must have arrived at the final destination with a delay of at least 3 hours. For long-haul flights over 3,500km, the full €600 compensation requires a delay of 4+ hours; delays of 3–4 hours on long-haul routes entitle you to a reduced amount of €300.
The regulation applies to all flights departing from an EU/EEA airport (regardless of airline), and to flights arriving in the EU on EU-registered carriers. Extraordinary circumstances such as severe weather or political instability may exempt airlines from paying compensation.
